What is caviar?

To be considered true caviar, the roe must come from sturgeon of the Acipenseridae family. As all caviar lovers know, only sturgeon eggs qualify as real caviar! Non-sturgeon fish eggs are just considered Roe but commonly called caviar in North America.

How do I eat & serve caviar?

Caviar is a delicacy that can be eaten alone, as a side or appetizer and a great addition to any dish. The most popular accompaniments for caviar are French Cocktail Blinis, unsalted butter and Crème Fraiche. If you are serving the tin of caviar at room temperature for more than one hour, make sure to keep the tin on crushed ice. Use Mother of Pearl utensils when handling sturgeon caviar, stainless steel silverware can alter the taste of caviar! What is the best caviar?

Like wine or champagne, it comes down to personal preference. While many connoisseurs consider Beluga (Huso Huso) to be the finest, others swear by the delicious flavors of Golden Reserve Osetra, the clean profile of Classic Osetra, or creamy finish of Royal Baerii Caviar. The goal is to try as many different types of caviar, so you can discover your personal favorite.

Is caviar nutritious or healthy?

Absolutely, caviar has numerous health benefits. One serving is full of protein, calcium, iron, magnesium, phosphorus, selenium, and vitamins A, B2, B6, B12, B44, C, and D. Is caviar sustainable?

Absolutely. There is a global ban on the sale of wild caviar so nature can replenish the world’s wild sturgeon population. Therefore, majority of caviar is now farmed worldwide. Caviar Foodie recognizes this and works with only Sustainable farms that produce superior quality caviar. We only import the Tastiest and Highest Quality caviar for Canadians to enjoy!

How should I store caviar?

Make sure the tin is sealed and unopened for long term storage. Store it in the fridge or on ice while travelling. Once the tin is opened, enjoy and consume within 48 hours.

Where do you ship to?

We ship to all of Canada. There are some remote areas FedEx and other couriers don’t deliver to, if that’s the case with your order we will contact you to see if there are alternative options. A refund will be completed if no delivery alternatives are available.

How is caviar shipped?

All our caviar and perishable products are carefully packed. The proper packaging materials are used to keep your order at safe temperatures during transit. We use FedEx Priority Overnight Service and Courier Service within the Toronto Area to insure the quickest delivery possible. What methods of payment do you accept?

We accept PayPal and all major credit cards via Stripe. Stripe is one of the most secure and popular payment processors in the world.

Can I freeze my caviar?

Sturgeon caviar is not recommended to be frozen. If you haven’t yet opened the tin of caviar and it’s coming close to expiring, you can freeze it. Keep in mind that the caviar may lose its texture, egg size, and flavor profile upon thawing.
